Вопроси философа, отчего философствует,
Побуждаемый к тому не иначе, как тенью отца,
Не допускающей никого до предела ночи.

Не приукрасить песнопение является отец.
Он выкликает другого, патриархи
Истины. И вышагивают вокруг, повелителями

Здешних песнопений и проповедей, поважнее бурь
Или туч, что замешкались над морем. Это они —
Время, по прошествии долгого времени.

И вот, день воцаряется и густеет вокруг фигуры —
Ярко-синей на своем пьедестале — словно желающей сказать:
"Я — величие новонайденной ночи."

Ask of the philosopher why he philosophizes,

The father does not come to adorn the chant.

The chant and discourse there, more than wild weather
Or clouds that hang lateness on the sea. They become
A time existing after much time has passed.

Therein, day settles and thickens round a form —
Blue-bold on its pedestal — that seems to say,
"I am the greatness of the new-found night."
