Лотта Лазерштайн на аукционах Lempertz

Четыре работы Лотты Лазерштайн (Лазерштейн, Lotte Laserstein, 1898-1993), найденные мной на аукционах Лемпертц (основан в 1845 г.).

Впервые мы узнали об этой художнице 28 октября 2013 г. на замечательной выставке в Берлинской галерее современного искусства «Вена-Берлин. Искусство двух городов (от Шиле до Гросса)». Там экспонировались три ее поразительных работы периода «Новой вещности», и особенно — магический «Вечер над Потсдамом» (1930), который позже, в 2015 г., привозили в Иерусалим на выставку «Сумерки над Берлином, 1905-1945».

От нацистов она сумела уехать в Швецию.

Это стихотворение я написал в некотором потрясении в течение нескольких дней после берлинской выставки:

Лотта, Веймар

Три дамы, два господина —
так Лотта их рассадила:
два господина, три дамы
над линией крыш Потсдама.

До эпохи потопа,
в палитре гелиотропа,
на празднике урожая,
Ужину подражая.

В тон урождённым шведам
распорядиться светом —
вкрадчивым, золотистым,
подыгрывающим статистам.

Распорядиться мгновением
с вящим благоговением,
выписать руки, лица,
будущим распорядиться.

Рядом с балконной решёткой
жизнь не кажется шаткой,
даже слишком короткой,
даже слишком несладкой.

Но отчего-то печальны
и господа, и дамы,
и голоса прощальны
над перспективой дальней.

И осторожна поза
старой учёной овчарки,
новая грусть — заноза
вымученной опечатки.

Дальний классик-зануда
ищет художнику место —
распорядителю чуда,
запечатлителю жеста:

он то покажет спину,
то из зеркала глянет,
мнёт свою бедную глину,
наверняка обманет.

Лотта, довольно ли хлеба
в свете потсдамского неба,
фруктов довольно ли, масла —
если мгновения мало?

Ломкая скатерть льняная,
горький дымок табачный,
осень сырая, хмельная,
замысел неудачный.

Oil on wooden panel 54.5 x 70 cm Framed. Signed 'Lotte Laserstein' in black lower right and erroneously dated '1925' by the artist at a later stage.

In this touching likeness, Lotte Laserstein has portrayed her beloved grandmother Ida Birnbaum on her deathbed. As a person with whom she had a close connection, the artist had already immortalised her numerous times in earlier years. Laserstein surely created this final, very personal likeness only for herself. The image's exceptional intensity comes from its rigorous concentration on the deceased woman's head and hands. Laserstein has modelled them in finely layered washes, and she has sensitively preserved beyond the grasp of time that aspect which was most important to her: the personality of the beloved individual. In contrast to this the funeral shroud, bed and background are only sketchily suggested and left entirely in white, providing the likeness with a floating, unworldly air.
Laserstein did not sign and date the painting at the time it was created; this was not done until several decades later, when the artist herself was surely at an advanced age. Apparently, she could only vaguely remember the year in which her grandmother had died and thus erroneously dated it to 1925. Ida Birnbaum actually died in 1931, at a point in time when Laserstein was at the pinnacle of her work as an artist.
